There's an undeniable chill in the air (or at least I can pretend...) and I'm so excited about this year's knitting season.
This is the first year I've sent our beautiful Shetland wool out to be milled, rather than handspinning it myself. I was nervous about entrusting my beautiful fleece to just anyone, but the folks at Blue Mountain Fiber Mill in eastern PA have done a wonderful job. Our yarn is just so lovely - I adore all the natural colors that our Shetlands provide, and of course the softness is extraordinary.
We only keep a half dozen or so sheep in our flock at a time as our pasture is small. We know each sheep by name and personality and it brings so much joy to our lives to be able to create beautiful crafts with their lovely wool. This gorgeous ram in the photos is Yarrow - we are all so smitten with him and take a look at his gorgeous fleece below.
Knitting, crochet, weaving - these fiber arts are so meditative and peaceful. I've found knitting is a great soother for young and old - my young boys even take a turn with the needles. Of course, it always helps to have a furry friend around for inspiration too (this is Billy who lives in my studio).
So much yarn, so little time...but Autumn is here - so let's get knitting!
